Questions & answers
The Woodlands questions, answered
Can I leave my car overnight at a Park & Ride lot in The Woodlands?
Only with written permission arranged in advance. The Township's Park & Ride locations page says overnight parking is not permitted unless prior written permission is obtained from The Woodlands Township. The lots are there for bus riders. A trip that keeps you in Houston overnight needs that permission before you leave the car.
Ask the Township well before the night you need it, since the rule turns on permission given beforehand and in writing. Keep the written answer with you on the day. Without it, drive downtown that morning or arrange a ride to and from the lot.
Who runs the Woodlands Express buses?
The Woodlands Township owns The Woodlands Express buses, according to its bus service page. Daily operations and service delivery are managed by a contracted transit provider. So the buses are a Township asset, while the people running each day's trips work for the provider the Township contracted with.
Fares, lot locations, gate hours and the overnight parking rule appear on the Township's own transportation pages. Start there with any question about tickets or the Park & Ride lots.
How long is the drive back from downtown Houston at 5:30 pm?
Google's Tuesday 5:30 pm estimates for 10 November, read on 4 November 2026, ran 42 to 76 minutes to Grogan's Mill and 51 to 87 to Sterling Ridge. Every evening route but one goes up I-45 N. Those Google readings put Alden Bridge and Indian Springs each at 50 to 85 minutes for the same evening hour. In the same set from Google, Cochran's Crossing came to 48 to 84 minutes and Harper's Landing to 48 to 82. Panther Creek's 5:30 pm estimate in those Google readings was 45 to 75 minutes.
Does the Woodlands Express go anywhere besides downtown Houston?
Yes. The Township's bus service page lists Greenway Plaza, the Texas Medical Center and the Energy Corridor among its Houston destinations, along with Downtown. Its transportation FAQ names the same four business centers, calling the last one the Energy Corridor District, for buses leaving The Woodlands in the morning. A job at any of them is on the same service.
The service page says its destinations include those four. Ask the Township whether a stop near your own office is on a route before you plan the move around it.
How many miles is it from The Woodlands to downtown Houston?
The Woodlands sits about 27 miles north of downtown Houston. The road distance runs longer. Google's Tuesday 8:00 am routes for 10 November, read on 4 November 2026, measured 30.0 miles from Grogan's Mill and 38.3 miles from Alden Bridge. Those were the shortest and longest morning routes in that set of readings.
In the same Google readings of 4 November 2026, the Tuesday morning route from Town Center was 31.5 miles and from Sterling Ridge 37.8 miles, both on I-45. Creekside Park's route by Hardy Toll Rd measured 37.3 miles in the 8:00 am reading Google gave on 4 November 2026.
How do I test the morning commute before I commit to a Woodlands house?
Drive it yourself on a weekday, from the street you are weighing, at the hour you would leave for work. Google's ranges describe one Tuesday hour in typical traffic. A trial run during a house-hunting visit shows the trip from your own door to your own office.
With a move date already set, put a weekday morning drive on the calendar beside the house tours. If you would ride the bus, try that too: reach a Park & Ride while its gates are open and catch a morning departure into Houston. Compare the two before you write an offer, since the commute is one of the checks a purchase rests on.
